The Fourth Biennial Meeting of States to consider the implementation of the Programme of Action to prevent, combat and eradicate the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons (SALW) in all its aspects will take place at the United Nations headquarters in New York from 14 to 18 June 2010. This meeting is part of the follow-up process to the UN 2001 Conference on the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects during which Member States adopted the Programme of Action on Small Arms and Light Weapons (PoA). This key political instrument laid the foundation for action at the national, regional and global levels and has become a valuable tool for States, international organizations and civil society.
