The report Monitoring the Impact of Economic Crisis on Crime, released by the United Nations Organization on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), cautions that crime may peak during periods of economic stress. The report which was produced within the context of the United Nations Global Pulse Initiative on monitoring the impact of crisis on vulnerable populations examines police-recorded crime data from fifteen countries/city contexts during the period of the global financial crisis in 2008/2009.
