This issue of the Good Practice newsletter: New Routes to Engagement is themed around mining and Indigenous Peoples to mark the launch of ICMM's recent Good Practice Guide: Indigenous Peoples and Mining. It contains articles on some of the key issues facing Indigenous Peoples and the efforts being made to address them.
A special report highlights a number of innovative projects that have been undertaken with ICMM member companies. Highlights include Freeport Indonesia’s community education and training courses in Papua and MMG’s cultural awareness programs in Western Australia.
Two comment articles provide expert opinions on the same topic. Professor David Brereton provides further context and background to the Guide, while Aidan Davy, Senior Program Director at ICMM, tackles the complex issue of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC). (...)
