United Nations - Consultation on the Draft Guiding Principles on extreme poverty and human rights

Across the world – in both developed and developing countries – more than 1 billion people live in conditions of extreme poverty with no (or limited) access to basic human rights. To change this situation and to more effectively advance the rights of those living in extreme poverty, the UN Human Rights Council is in the process [1] of developing Draft Guiding Principles (DGPs) on Extreme Poverty and Human Rights.
In August 2010, at the fifteenth session of the Human Rights Council, the Independent Expert on the question of human rights and extreme poverty, Ms. Magdalena Sepúlveda presented her progress report (A/HRC/15/41), containing comprehensive recommendations and an annotated outline on how to advance the Draft Guiding Principles on extreme poverty and human rights.
